A hundred year old mystery revealed!
While setting up a Titanic event called "A Day To Remember" in 1998, at the West Edmonton mall in Alberta, I got a call from the Edmonton Mayor Bill Smith. He informed me that his mother Elizabeth (ninety eight) at the time, would like to meet Millvina, as she was a witness to the Titanic's flares of distress aboard the TSS Saturnia. After meeting her during an interview, I was amazed to find that her story was not only questionable due to the fact that the common belief. is that according to most Titanic scholars, was that there were no such witnesses around Titanic's area at the time of the sinking. She told me that while aboard the vessel on route to Canada with her parents, all the passengers rushed to the starboard side to see what they believed at the time, were the fireworks of Titanic's maiden voyage to N.Y. lighting up the dark sky. then a power failure occurred and all the Saturnia's lights flickered a few times and went out. The captain concerned for the passenger's safety, asked them to clear the decks. As I looked deeper in the truth of her story, something unbelievable proved to be true, Yes! there was a passenger ship called the TSS Saturnia built in 1910. A further investigation, revealed something that blew my mine.,, Could this be the so called "Mystery Lights"? Digging even deeper into this amazing story, revealed what I believed, must be without a doubt the so illusive "mystery lights" Titanic viewed during the moments of that fateful night, based not only on her statements, but the fact that a search of all vessels in Titanic's vicinity at the time of the sinking, does not show the TSS Saturnia's nor her whereabouts, at the time.
